Drawing Challenge :: bead :: crown

crowing glory

my beads

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Ive put 2 challenges together this week in an effort to catch up so we have
no: 89 the crown challenge hosted by our illustrious Ariane (still illustrious! but I have been corrected ) lovely Stefanie (apologies to Stefanie!) and
this weeks challenge no: 90 the bead challenge which is hosted by the wonderful Norma.

You can follow the links above to find other wonderful crowns and beads to admire.

CROWN

I love these old black and white drawing plates of crowns which lead me to exploring decorative type. Bringing them the 2 elements together with fleur de lis pattern says royalty to me.

BEAD

I dont wear much jewellery but when I do its beads. I love my string of chunky wooden beads and my long strand of  blue glass. But my favourite beads are the blue/green polymer beads that a friend of mine made for me. I wear these a lot.

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend mine is a little dull grey overcast here but I will not complain after days of summer heat we have had recently not to mention bushfires, floods and tornadoes would you believe? This is truly a land of excess.

I have been watching the Sex and the City series (finally Ive never seen it) and am quietly surprised by the the first 4 series which are witty and clever the last 2 lost their wind but are nonetheless made up for by the eye candy of  New York city, Paris and the over the top fashion.

I am listening to an old KD Lang CD which I havent listen to in years rediscovering the amazing voice of this talented artist.

I have been baking bread and making chilli con carne with my homegrown chillies extra spicy and hot!

I have been playing YAHTZEE with Stan vicious battles to the end and lots of laughing at the loser dont you just love the comraderie of boardgames.

And work there is always work it seems to spill over into my weekends all the time

Hoping your weekend has been as fruitful as mine Ill pop over for a visit when I can.

Ahhh the sun has come out time for a walk methinks.

Margaret Preston :: Special Birthday Wishes

Sturt Desert Pea  circa 1930 by Margaret Preston

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

There is a lovely kind hearted and thoughtful person amongst us and that is our dear Ariane who has organised a little event to wish another special person in our community a Happy Birthday.

I jumped at the chance to take part because Nadine has become of sorts a friend. I question the traditional form of a friend someone you have face to face with who is a part of your 'real life' as we call it but a friend nonetheless who also offers support and encouragement, who takes an interest in what you are doing and entertains you with their stories and visions.

So my friend Nadine HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
I hope you have a wonderful day filled with cake, coffee and presents!

My present to you is this post.
I wanted to give you flowers from my side of the world.
Margaret Preston is our most famous painter/printmaker of Australian flora.
Her artworks are accessible to Australians as they are popular subjects for cards and prints which is why she is still popular today.
I really love her sturt desert pea artworks. One of Australias more unusual flowers.

I hope you enjoy this post Miss Nadine.

To Ariane such a lovely idea thanks for organising it.

DC :: snake/python

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

This is awfully late I know but Im slowly catching up. Last weekend our wonderful Ariane hosted the snake theme for the drawing challenge.

My snake/python is a holiday activity for my nieces and nephew who are nearing the end of the summer holidays and are at the "Im bored" stage. Hopefully this activity will fill a little of that time.

Ive called mine a green python it feels less threatening that way!
Ive also included the snake artwork in a pdf if you think you might know of some little people who would like to make their own jewel python or killer snake.

To see more snake artwork you can visit Arianes blog and follow the links.

The Long Post

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Where do I start?
Feels like ages since I posted a 'normal' post but here goes..........
firstly a big thankyou for all your love and support for myself and Stan over this trying time in our lives its been a weird couple of weeks to say the least.

Took a good part of the week to start feeling 'normal' noone tells you that you will feel dizzy, drugged and so so tired after surviving a traumatic event but you do.
Apparently when you go into survival mode your body releases chemicals that enable you to 'flight' and it takes a while for the body to rid you of these when the event is over.
Thankfully I feel better with each day that passes.

I felt such sadness that I never got to post my stay at my house in Tasmania because of the interruption of the events so I will endeavor to do so over the next couple of weeks.

I took very few pics of my bushfire ordeal as it was happening it was a conscious decision not to have such a graphic record of such a horrible experience.
Also I needed to conserve my phone battery as we had no power and no way of knowing when it would all end. My main priority was to keep my daughter informed of our safety so she wouldnt worry.
I have assembled the very few that I did take of the beginning (before I realised just how serious a situation it was) and I have posted these on my snaphappy blog with other much nicer ones that I took before the fire.

Looking at the pictures still makes me anxious thinking how I could of lost my beautiful house and bay but thankfully I didnt.

My other desire was to post about my new business to log the process and progress of developing an identity and website. I still intend to but it might have to wait till I get myself sorted with other pressing needs that have now cropped up.

When I returned to Melbourne I was lucky to receive some mail from the lovely Miss Nadine (aka Miss Woolf) It took me the best part of a week before I felt up to opening it.
I wanted to enjoy the moment and it was such a pleasure to receive the lovely card well wishes and the beautiful handmade garland which I have strung up on my Australia spoon holder in my kitchen.
Now I can see it every morning and think of a nice kind Woolfy gal from far away who sent it to me. Thankyou Nadine! a little parcel will find its way to you soon.

And just in case I didnt thankyou Norma I will thankyou here for the delicious candies that you sent a few weeks ago. (belated halloween) they were consumed very quickly and enjoyed thoroughly by Stan and myself. You still need to send me your address so I can send you a little something too.

That will do for the time being methinks Im feeling much better now Ive posted on the blog I cant believe Im into my third year of blogging where does the time fly hey?

Heres to another year of drawing challenges, shared thoughts and  friendship.
I often wonder what my life would have been like if blogging wasnt part of it and I cant imagine it so I wont.

I wonder if Ill still be blogging at 90?
I can see it now retirement villages with blogging rooms for the blogger grannies or grannies blogging into the wee small hours of the night being told off by the nightshift nurse heh heh heh.

Happy New Year Friends
Heres to 2013!

Bushfires Tasmania

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

This post was going to be a Happy New Year post and it still is but Ive been a bit quiet here on my blog due to the fact that Stan and I were involved in the recent bushfires in Tasmania.
We were lucky in the fact that we both survived with our lives and our property others were not so fortunate and even though miraculously it appears noone has perished yet many have lost their homes, their livelihood and in the case of Dunalley their community.
We ask that you spare a thought for those families who are beginning their new year with loss. If you would like to help you can donate through the red cross tasmanian bushfire appeal.
So my friends Im taking a couple of days off from everything to recuperate and settle back into normality and will start my New Year next week.
